Day 8: How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? {12 Days of Christmas}

Small world play is powerful for children.  It allows them to act out sociodramatic themes, while simultaneously allowing them to control the environment.  Small world play works well for independent play or cooperative play.  Have you even wondered why Polly Pocket and Imaginext is so popular with kids?
Today we put some small world play to work.  We first read the story How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas?
I had the kids help me find all the dinosaurs in our house.  Zaven informed me that the large red one is actually a dragon (we will let it slide).

I also gathered some simple non-breakable Christmas decorations for the kids to use with the dinosaurs.  The little presents from the Dollar Tree were a huge hit.
 The activity was extremely open-ended.  Today they played independently.  I think they all needed a moment to decompress after a long week at school.

Brickston gave the "dragon" a few kisses before we cleaned up.
