Who doesn't love the Old Lady books? We love the entire series. Kinsley received There Was an Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow from her past kindergarten teacher. We have read it every Christmas since!
I need to preface this activity by once again reminding you that I am NOT an artist.
Here is what you will need:
- Paper lunch snack
- Old lady template (I warned you)
- Glue stick
- Crayons or markers
- 3 styrofoam balls (snow)
- 2 toothpicks
- Fabric (for a scarf)
- 2 sticks
- Doll hat
- Black Lego pieces (for coal)
- Pipe cleaner (for pipe)
After taking a quick look through the story, we colored in the old lady and cut her out. We traced the styrofoam ball onto the paper bag. This showed us how big to cut the opening. We glued the two pieces of the old lady around the opening.
As we read the story we fed the old lady the corresponding pieces.
At the end of the story, a snowman is made! We used the toothpicks to assemble the snowman.
Be extremely careful with little ones and the small parts. I gave Brickston a bag with just the Styrofoam balls to put in and dump out. He did take a few minutes to admire Kinsley's snowman.
Do you have suggestions on how to make this more baby friendly? I was trying to think of edible pieces to use for the eyes, but couldn't come up with a solution.
