I don't know what it is about the song, but "The Little Drummer Boy" always reminds me of my mom. I am not sure if she even likes it...I need to ask her! I also really enjoy illustrations by Ezra Jack Keats, so I was excited when I found this book at the library.
Tonight, Kinsley read the book to us. I love listening to her read.
Remember on Day 2 when I told you to save that container? Today is the day you need it!
What you need:
- Empty container (Cool Whip, oatmeal canister, Lysol wipes, etc.)
- Tacky glue
- foam paintbrush (optional: for smoothing out the glue)
- Decorative paper (scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, scrap wallpaper)
- Something to hit the drum (pencils, plastic spoons, etc)
I helped the kids measure how much paper they needed to cover the sides of their containers. Kinsley and Zaven cut their paper and glued it on the sides.
Brickston was happy to write on the paper.
We opened the lid of the containers and stuffed the ends inside to make a strap for the drum. Zaven was the one who suggested that he needed a way to carry it around the house. I gave the kids plastic spoons to hit the tops of their drums.
Pretty soon I had my own little Branch drum line.
